- expected him to help remove Native Americans (60,000)

- Cherokee, Chickasaw, Creek, Choctaw, & Seminole
o Georgia, Mississippi, and Alabama dissolved Indian governments and seized their lands (1827 – 1830)
o Worcester v Georgia (1832)
- John Marshall and Supreme Court ruled Georgia’s land seizures were unconstitutional
- There was no way to enforce it
o Cherokee removal known as the Trail of Tears
